Recent court filings argue Jiang ordered Falun Gong "eradicated"...

To pilfer and embezzle large sums of money overseas;
To force into submission members of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party whom Jiang regarded as rivals within the party;
Against the advisement of the government and overriding the decision of Politburo members.

CHICAGO (FDI) -- On Monday, plaintiffs in Falun Gong v. Jiang Zemin (and the "6-10 Office") filed legal papers charging Jiang Zemin with crimes of extensive corruption and urged the Court to hold him responsible for committing genocide against Falun Gong for his own private benefit -- to consolidate his power base, enhance his stature, and increase his personal wealth.

The Memorandum of Law submitted in support of these new charges states that the entire campaign against Falun Gong was personally initiated by Jiang, and forced upon the government of China, the Communist Party, and the people through the "6-10 Office" that was created for that purpose.

"Acting against the decision of other members of the Chinese Communist Party Politburo," says Attorney Dr. Terri Marsh, who filed the lawsuit against Defendant Jiang, "in June of 1999, Jiang personally sent an internal notice to all Party members ordering them to collaborate in the persecution of Falun Gong." Dr. Marsh adds, "Since that time, Jiang has been the driving force behind the persecution, even personally visiting provinces that initially were not active in carrying out his orders to ensure that the entire nation toed the line."

Dr. Marsh concludes, "Indeed the entire campaign of persecution has taken place outside of the normal and legally established governmental procedures. This is Jiang's personal campaign."

Like the Cultural Revolution, the new court filing argues, the persecution of Falun Gong in China was created by one individual to the detriment and harm of the entire country. The filing goes on to say that as a violator of his nation's laws, and international norms, Jiang acts not on behalf of the state, but rather as an enemy of the state and the people of China. Citing the landmark US lawsuit that set the stage for trying foreign officials for gross human rights violations (Filartiga v Pena-Irala), Dr. Marsh quotes, "the torturer has become -- hostis humani generi, an enemy of all mankind."

The legal filing further notes that an earlier decision to grant immunity to Jiang is no different than granting immunity to Hitler, Milosevic, and Stalin for their crimes against humanity. As was the case with Hitler, Milosevic, and Stalin, Jiang's acts of torture and genocide are not subject to immunity because they constitute crimes of the highest order -- crimes against humanity -- and violate not only international law, but also are in direct violation of the domestic law and Constitution of China. Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa (about), is a practice of meditation and exercises with teachings based on the universal principle of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance." It is a practice that was taught in private for thousands of years before being made public in 1992 by Mr. Li Hongzhi. Falun Gong has roots in traditional Chinese culture, but it is distinct and separate from other practices such as the religions of Buddhism and Taoism. Since its introduction in 1992, it quickly spread by word of mouth throughout China, and is now practiced in over 50 countries.

With government estimates of as many as 100 million practicing Falun Gong, China's Communist leader Jiang Zemin outlawed the peaceful practice in July 1999 (report), fearful of anything touching the hearts and minds of more citizens than the Communist Party. Unable to crush the spirit of millions who had experienced improved health and positive life changes from Falun Gong, Jiang's regime has intensified its propaganda campaign to turn public opinion against the practice while quietly imprisoning, torturing and even murdering those who practice it. To that end, Jiang established the "6-10 Office," a Gestapo-like agency spanning from the Central Government to the local governments. The United States Congress has described the "6-10 Office" as an agency charged with "overseeing the persecution of Falun Gong members through organized brainwashing, torture, and murder." (news)

The Falun Dafa Information Center has verified details of 792 deaths (reports / sources) since the persecution of Falun Gong in China began in 1999. In October 2000, however, Government officials inside China reported that the actual death toll was well over 1,600. Expert sources now estimate that figure to be much higher. Hundreds of thousands have been detained, with more than 100,000 being sentenced to forced labor camps, typically without trial.

Mr. Zhao Yong, age 32, was a resident of Jinshan Township, Bazhong City, Sichuan Province. He started practicing Falun Dafa in 1995, and strove to conduct himself according to "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance." Since July 20, 1999, Jiang and his followers have been persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners on a large scale. His parent and older brother were illegally detained and sent to labor camps one after another. He was also arrested by local police as a key practitioner and sent to a brainwashing class. He escaped, and became destitute and homeless in order to avoid being unlawfully arrested at his home. Some malicious people from the local government and police searched for him for over ten days and ransacked his home several times. His home's furniture and door were violently broken by this evil gang. In April 2002, Zhao Yong was arrested at a Falun Dafa material site in Chengdu City by police from the Jinjiang District Station. He was detained in the Pi County Detention Center. Because he was very steadfast and never renounced his faith, he was illegally sentenced to ten years of prison in March 2003, by the Jinjiang District Court, which is under the control of the Chengdu City "610 Office" and the Bazhong City "610 Office."

During the police interrogation in the detention center, Zhao Yong went through brutal beatings and torture. His body became emaciated from the cruel treatment, and only skin and bones were left. He could not eat any food since June 2003. Police saw him almost die, and hurriedly sent him to the hospital. Even when he was lying on the hospital bed, the police still made him wear ankle shackles, and handcuffed him to the steel board of the window. On August 6, 2003, his physical condition worsened. The police from Chengdu City then ordered his family to go to the hospital, where they were forced to sign a statement guaranteeing that they would never try to hold the police responsible. Then his family was allowed to carry him back home. The people from Zhao Yong's hometown who saw his condition were all in tears. On August 31, 2003, Zhao Yong died at a young age.

Etouwan Brainwashing Center in Qiaokou District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province cost nearly one million yuan to construct. It is a base specifically used to persecute Dafa practitioners. In June 2002, Qiaokou District's "610 Office" (an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems) decided to increase the "transformation" (meaning to force practitioners to give up their belief) intensity, so they have since selected the so-called "elite torturers" from the district to reinforce the brainwashing class. In the classes, these people openly call themselves local thugs and evil heads sent by Satan. When persecuting Dafa practitioners they are more base, deceitful and cruel than anyone before them. The assistant director of the "610 Office," Xie Xiaofeng was appointed Party secretary of the brainwashing center. Xie Xiaofeng has authorised the team leader, Li Wei, to use any means to "transform" Dafa practitioners. Before coming to Etouwan Brainwashing Centre, Li Wei had graduated from the police academy and worked in the Public Safety Department, where he had viciously beaten many innocent people, often to the point of disability. Now in persecuting Dafa practitioners he uses all kinds of vicious methods and persecutes them inhumanely. He has even screamed insanely, "Once you are in this class, don't think about getting out through me if you aren't transformed. Not unless you are dead."

At the end of August 2002, Dafa practitioner Mr. Yan Kejian was arrested at work by the police and illegally put into the Etouwan Brainwashing Center. After Mr. Yan went on a hunger strike for over 20 days, Li Wei used extremely barbaric methods to force- feed him, and deprived him of sleep for several days in a row. Mr. Yan was forced to stand facing the wall and when he could not stand up any longer, Li Wei would punch him and kick him. Finally Mr. Yan's whole body was in shock and he could not control his bladder or bowel movements, but Li Wei still refused to let him go. The second day, Li Wei tied Mr. Yan's hands behind his back, made him kneel on the ground and hung him on the metal window; then he extended his four limbs and tightly secured them on the windows for a few days. During that time, the staff continued to use different methods to torture him. In the end, Mr. Yan went into a coma, but the labor camp staff still said he was pretending and refused to let his family members take him home.

In November 2002, the brainwashing center staff forced Dafa practitioner Mr. Liu Li from Commercial Bank in Qiaokou District to read a poster on the wall that slandered Dafa and Master Li. He refused to read it and tore it apart. They then took him to an empty room in the detention center across the street, handcuffed his hands and then suspended him by hanging him from the window, only allowing the tip of his feet to touch the ground. They also intentionally opened the door and windows to allow the freezing wind to blow in, and they starved him.

At the beginning of this year, Ms. Sun Zerong from Yijiadun Street was reported to the police by someone and was arrested and sent to a brainwashing center. Li Wei ordered over twenty staff to take turns viciously beating her until she lost consciousness. They dragged her to the hospital to wake her up and then dragged her back to the brainwashing center to resume the torture. Finally when she seemed to be very close to death, they took her to the hospital again. The doctor said Sun Zerong's kidneys were swollen and filled with water due to their beating. The staff from the brainwashing center saw that her situation was life threatening and that she needed an operation immediately, so they left her at the hospital in order to shirk responsibility for their crime.

At the end of May this year, Mr. Yu Zuhong from Ronghua Street was taken from his home and forcefully sent to the brainwashing center. After the staff failed to reach their goal using all their tricks, they tied Yu Zuhong's arms behind his back and kept raising them until only the tips of his toes could reach the ground. His arms were fully covered with mosquito bites. Mr. Yu refused to tolerate this inhumane torture and climbed over a wall to escape from the evil, but he fell and broke his leg. The staff lied to his family that Yu was doing very well in the brainwashing class.

Ms. Yu Xiulan, 60 years old, was a Falun Dafa practitioner from Dayangshu Town, E Banner of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. For being a Dafa practitioner, she was illegally detained in the Baoanzhao Women's Prison, where she was locked in solitary confinement. During her detention she initiated a hunger strike lasting over 50 days, but the prison police still did not release her. She died on December 22, 2002.

In September 1999, Ms. Yu Xiulan was illegally arrested when she went to Beijing to peacefully appeal for Falun Dafa. The police had her sent to the Dayangshu Detention Center where the illegal persecution continued. But she persisted in her faith, and was transferred to the Alihe detention center to be detained for 18 months. Shortly after her release, she was arrested again for handing out Falun Gong materials and was illegally sentenced for three years in Baoanzhao Women's Prison. Ms. Yu Xiulan insisted on studying the Fa and doing Falun Dafa exercises, so the police kept her isolated from other practitioners in a closed room so she could not positively affect others in the prison. She began a hunger strike which spanned over 50 days to protest her persecution. By the time she ended her hunger strike, she was no more than skin and bones.

Due to the serious effects caused by the way she was treated within the walls of Baoanzhao Women's prison, she began to show symptoms of a stroke. Her family requested that she see a prison doctor, but the prison did not allow it. She died during this illegal persecution on December 22, 2002.

Mr. Li Jinrong (Ms. Yu Xiulan's spouse) also went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and was illegally detained in the Beijing liaison office of Inner Mongolia. He later escaped with righteous thoughts. In order to avoid further persecution, he had to become homeless. The Dayangshu policemen could not find Mr. Li Jinrong, so they detained his eldest son in the detention center as a hostage, and his son did not even practice Falun Gong. After learning the news, Mr. Li Jinrong went back to ask for the release of his son, and was thus captured by the police. His son was released after being held for 15 days, but he wasn't set free until 8 months later, and only then after his family continually demanded his release. After his release, he was detained again for fifteen months for allegedly handing out Falun Dafa materials.

Ms. Li Haiyan (Mr. Li Jinrong's daughter, also a Falun Dafa practitioner) went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong as well, and as a result, was arrested and detained in the Dayangshu Detention Center. She did not renounce her faith so she was transferred to the Alihe Detention Center to be persecuted together with her mother. She was arrested again some time after her release from the Alihe Detention Center for handing out Falun Dafa materials once more. Later on, she was released on medical parole. She was forced into homelessness afterwards in order to avoid further persecution.

Ms. Li Haiyan was arrested once again by Jiagedaqi police in Heilongjiang Province for handing out truthful Falun Dafa materials. She was then sentenced to thirteen years and is now being detained in Harbin Women's prison in Heilongjiang Province.

In July 2003, Jiamusi Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhang Yufang refused to complete a "homework" assignment that was designed to slander and defame Dafa at the Jiamusi Labor Camp. Guard Hou Li dragged her to the hallway and slapped Zhang Yufang in the face until it was swollen. The next day, guards tied her hands behind her back with one hand over one shoulder while the other hand was against her lower back. The guard then ordered inmate Wang Jie to apply a great deal of force to pull her two hands toward one another as they handcuffed her two hands together, tearing muscles surrounding the shoulder and collarbone and causing Yufang great pain. Suffering from high blood pressure and other ailments, Yufang went blind the next morning. After more than two months, her right eye showed some improvement, but she still needed people to guide her while she walked. She became numb in her right arm and could no longer raise it.

Ms. Shan Jinying is a Dafa practitioner from Shuangyashan City who is in her late 40s. About a month ago she began to suffer from pain in her eye as well as migraine headaches. When she was sent to the hospital, the doctor told her that she must receive immediate medical treatment within one hour the next time she suffers the same symptoms, otherwise she faced the danger of going blind. When the doctor inquired as to how she had received such an injury, Sun Limin, the policeman who accompanied her, stopped her from telling the doctor. By this time, Shan Jinying could no longer eat any food. She required two people's help to hold her up, and she was emaciated. Even so, the police still forced her to go to the workshop with the other practitioners and lay down there. When Dafa practitioners tried to set up a bed made of planks for her, guard Gao Xiaohua stopped them. The workshop was dark and damp. Dan Jinying's condition continued to deteriorate as time went on, but the labor camp refused to release her.

Another Dafa practitioner Ms. Shan Jinli was jailed at the 8^th brigade. She was in her 50s and she once suffered from rheumatism. She had surgery done on her left ankle and her movement was restricted. Due to long-term detention, now her right ankle has also become immobile. She can no longer walk or take care of herself. She has difficulties even when using the bathroom. Each day someone has to carry her on their back to help her get around.

Dafa practitioner Ms. Yu Haiyan was in her 30s. The police tried to force her to give up her faith in Dafa, but she resolutely refused to write the "Five Statements" or participate in the so-called "homework." She was cuffed behind her back with one hand over her shoulder and with the other hand against her lower back. The police then applied a great deal of force to pull the two hands towards each other and handcuffed the two hands together. This caused her to suffer from heart problems and depression. Often she could not catch her breath, she felt weak, her feet went numb, and she could no longer walk. When the symptoms came on, she would suffer unbearably. She lost consciousness several times. However, deputies like Hong Wei did not care and even cursed practitioners and accused them of pretending to be sick.

One day this year, I went to the Longshan Labor Camp with three fellow practitioners to visit another practitioner who was being illegally detained there, and we witnessed the impudence and depravity of the police. They placed Teacher's photo on the ground in front of the gate, with a policeman stepping on each edge of the photo. Then they asked practitioners' family members to step on the photo. Many family members did not like this immoral behavior, so they strode over the photo. The police then ferociously called them back, ordering them to trample on the photo if they wanted to go inside and see the practitioners.

An elderly practitioner among the four of us said, "Today we must go inside openly. We must never step on Teacher's photo." We kept sending forth righteous thoughts. At this moment, only the four of us were still outside waiting for our turns to go in. Two policemen walked out through the gate, leaving only one of their colleagues sitting in a chair. Then our elderly practitioner walked over, picked up Teacher's photo and put it away. The policeman sitting there took a look at him, but did not say anything, as if he were frozen. Thus, under the protection of our Teacher, we walked into the labor camp in an open and dignified manner.

(Clearwisdom.net) Wang Yunlong, from Donggang City, Liaoning Province, became the political and security section chief of the city police department by persecuting Dafa practitioners. Just within such a short period since May 2003, Wang Yunlong and his subordinates have arrested about 30 Dafa practitioners.

In the beginning of July 2003, Wang Yunlong illegally searched the home of practitioner Ms. Yu Chuner four times, arrested her, and put her in the local detention center. Everyday Yu Chuner was only given cornmeal buns, but she had to pay 50 Yuan* for the food. Because of the torture she suffered, the cancer that had disappeared after she practiced Falun Gong recurred. The authorities still would not release her, but sent her to a hospital to be treated under monitoring. This costed her over 1000 Yuan.

Dafa practitioner Ms. Liu Yanhua was tortured until the cancer that had disappeared after she practiced Falun Gong recurred, but Wang Yunlong still sent her to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, where she was rejected because of the severity of her illness.

Dafa practitioner Ms. Liu Zhiqing' heart disease recurred and she passed out many times as a result of the torture. She is still being detained and monitored in the hospital.

*Yuan is the Chinese currency. The average monthly salary of an urban worker in China is 500 Yuan.

(Clearwisdom.net) Harbin City Falun Dafa practitioner Song Anyu, a young man who was clarifying the facts about Dafa in Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province, was arrested while at a fellow practitioner's house. The police brutally tortured him. They repeatedly struck his broken leg and forced his mother to listen to his screams from the brutal beating. While Song was detained in Qiqihar City's No.1 Detention Center, the metal wire that was used to fix his broken leg bone stuck out. Song asked the detention center and the court to allow the doctors to remove the metal wire, but his request was turned down. In April 2003, he was given a sentence of 14 years and sent to Qiqihar City Tailai Prison. It was reported that those "outstanding" police officers, including Chen Zhicai from Harbin City Railroad Police Department and others, who had participated in torturing Song Anyu and another practitioner, Wang Jinfan (Wang was sentenced to 10 years in Harbin City Female Prison), were given monetary rewards ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 Yuan.*

From March to the end of June 2003, under the disguise of "Striking Criminals Hard," the authorities in Qiqihar City heavily escalated the persecution of Dafa practitioners and their families. Under the incentive plan that a police officer would be awarded with 200 Yuan for each Dafa practitioner arrested, elderly Dafa practitioners in their 60's to70's and even children were arrested. Most of them were persecuted with severe tortures such as the "big hang up"^* and the "tiger bench"^**. Some practitioners were shocked with electric batons, or force-fed with "hot pepper water and mustard powder"^***. One female Dafa practitioner was force-fed with huge amounts of liquor while she was being tortured in the "big hang up" position. During this round of persecution, the police from Qiqihar City Tiefeng District Police Department and Longsha Police Department Anshunlu Police Station were the most vicious, doing their utmost to brutally torture Dafa practitioners.

On April 28, 2003, Sun Bairong, the director of Qiqihar City Tiefeng Police Department, Feng Lei, a former director of the No.1 Detention Center, Hou Jianwei, the associate director of Jianhua District Police Department, and some others were arrested by Heilongjiang Province Special Criminal Investigation Team for organized crime activities.

**Practitioners are forced to sit on a small iron bench that is approximately 20 cm (6 inches) tall with their knees tied together. With their hands tied behind their backs or sometimes placed on their knees, they are forced to sit straight up and look straight ahead. They are not allowed to turn their heads, close their eyes, talk to anyone or move at all. Several inmates are assigned to watch over the practitioners and force them to remain motionless while sitting on the bench. Usually some hard objects are inserted underneath the practitioners' lower legs or ankles to make it harder for them to tolerate this abuse (see illustration on <http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2001/11/24/16156.html>)

CHICAGO, Sept 30 (AFP) - US lawyers representing members of the Falun Gong spiritual movement have appealed a judge's decision to throw out a civil suit against former Chinese president Jiang Zemin, attorneys in the case said Tuesday.

The motions filed in US district court in Chicago ask the judge in the case to reconsider his decision and to admit an amended complaint, charging that Jiang personally directed the persecution of Falun Gong members to consolidate his power base, enhance his stature, and increase his personal wealth.

Judge Matthew Kennelly tossed a suit accusing Jiang of genocide and mass torture earlier this month, citing Jiang's former head-of-state immunity from prosecution.

But in the motions filed here Monday, the attorneys argued that there are clear legal precedents for former heads of states being held to account for their private or criminal actions by international courts, notably former Chilean strongman Augusto Pinochet, and former President Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines.

In the case of Jiang, the attorneys argued that the veteran Chinese politician essentially forfeited his immunity by violating his "nation's laws and international norms," through the persecution of China's Falun Gong followers.

"The torturer has become ... an enemy of all mankind," lawyer Terri Marsh said in a statement, citing a landmark US lawsuit that set the stage for trying foreign officials for gross human rights violations.

On September the 19th 2003, The Gothenburg Post published a report about Falun Gong practitioners filing a complaint to the police concerning the Chinese Consulate in Sweden. The following is a translation of that story.

The Falun Gong Association has filed a complaint with the police saying that the Chinese Consulate in Gothenburg attempted to try and stop a radio program being broadcast in Sweden.

The Falun Gong program is aired weekly on Gothenburg's local radio station and includes details of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. The Chinese Consulate attempted to get the local radio station to discontinue the program.

Yvonne Kleberg, host of "Falun Gong Time" at the local radio station, told the Swedish TT news agency, "It is infuriating for such a large state to try to suppress a voice that it does not want to listen to".

According to her, the Chinese Consulate also attempted to have politicians in Gothenburg withhold financial support for the local radio station. "In our view, this is a violation of the law by attempting to restrain freedom of speech."

"The Consulate staff paid a visit to the Gothenburg local radio station and used threats by insinuating that relations between China and Sweden are currently good, and it would be a pity if these relations were destroyed."

Kleberg said that they also mentioned economic relations between Shanghai and Gothenburg and the East Indian Group from Gothenburg that is scheduled to enter China next year.

This angered the director of the Gothenburg local radio station, Hans Hirschi, who is also a politician. He said "this has completely exceeded what a consulate should do. It is intolerable."

Hans confirmed that Chinese consulate staff visited the radio station in the summer.

"They attempted to force us to discontinue the program. We told them that it was not in their control. This is a basic right granted by law. Then they tried all that they could to have our financial support stopped. After they did not achieve their goal, they went to the local government to try to suppress us. They used the excuse of relationships between Shanghai and Gothenburg and the East Indian Group. It is disgusting to use such base means to achieve a goal."

Hans Hirschi stated, "Since 1940, when Germany attempted to stop Torgny Segerstedt, no incident like this has ever happened in Gothenburg."

According to Falun Gong practitioners, Falun Gong has been brutally persecuted in China. They say that the Chinese government torture practitioners. Some have even been tortured to death.

The Swedish TT news agency tried many times to contact the Consul at the Chinese Consulate in Gothenburg but got no response.

(Clearwisdom.net) At 8am on the 11th of September 2003, renowned Finnish lawyer Mr. Erkki Kannisto filed a lawsuit against Luo Gan for the crimes of genocide and torture to both the Finnish Court and the Police Court in Helsinki, on behalf of the Finnish Falun Gong Association. This incident was a big surprise for the legal community and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Kannisto accepted this case on the 10th of September, a day before filing the lawsuit. After two hours of listening to practitioners telling him about the persecution of Falun Dafa, what Falun Dafa is, why practitioners want to sue the criminal head of the "610" Office, and their requirements for the lawsuit, he decided that he would like to be their lawyer and participate in suing Luo Gan for the crimes of genocide and torture.

Dafa practitioners clarified the facts to him and gave him some relevant information while reminding him that the accused would try to take advantage of the right to immunity. He finished reading the materials very quickly and said that a "person who has committed enormous crimes such as genocide will not have any immunity."

Even though time was short, he began by agreeing that he would finish the lawsuit before Luo Gan could leave Finland, allowing Dafa practitioners to file the lawsuit with the Law Court and the Police Court in Rovaniemi. As Mr. Kannisto continued to listen to practitioners clarify the facts, his righteous attitude gradually became even stronger, and he completed the lawsuit a day early. He agreed that before Luo Gan left the capital of Finland the next morning, he would accompany Dafa practitioners to file the lawsuit with the Helsinki Law Court and Police Court.

During this limited time, Mr. Kannisto worked with Dafa practitioners overnight. He prepared the lawsuit while practitioners simultaneously did their best to translate all necessary materials into Finnish. At six o'clock the next day, Dafa practitioners checked all the material before printing out the lawsuit and other relevant information, all of which was sent to the Law Court, the Police Court and the media.

At 8am on the 11th of September, Mr. Kannisto, together with two practitioners, filed the lawsuit with the Law Court and the Police Court according to legal protocol.

After filing the lawsuit, Mr. Kannisto accepted an interview from a reporter. When he was answering questions, he said: "Today I have been entrusted by the Falun Dafa Association of Finland to file a lawsuit against Luo Gan for the crimes of genocide and torture and for the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China, to the Highest National Inquisitor and the Police Criminal Law Court in Helsinki, Finland. This indictment is to be examined by police before a decision by the Highest National Inquisitor whether this case should go to trial in Finland or not. I think this business is to preserve justice for mankind. A criminal who has committed such crimes as genocide will have to face the consequence of being arrested while visiting a foreign country."

Although the head of "610" Office left Finland in a hurry and escaped the trial, more people came to know the truth about the persecution and Falun Dafa because of this.

Mr. Kannisto said to Dafa practitioners on the phone: "While co-operating with Dafa practitioners, I felt extremely happy." He also said that if necessary, he would continue to help persecuted Dafa practitioners so that they can obtain justice.

Your letter of the 23^rd of July last drew my attention to Falun Gong, a traditional Chinese qigong freely practiced by 100 million people worldwide.

Unfortunately, it is not the same story in China. The practitioners of this particular practice are tortured and killed, total abject suppression as you fairly stated in your letter.

I would be willing to intervene, on your behalf, to the French Government via Monsieur Dominique de Villepin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to defend the basic human rights by condemning the Chinese government's attitude in this matter.

Hoping that these multiple steps taken on the European as well as the International front will come to fruition one day. Rest assured of my deepest good wishes.

(Clearwisdom.net) After reading practitioner's articles on Minghui about how to correctly handle being "transformed," I felt like sharing my understanding.

When I was in a labor camp, I didn't become entangled in the various kinds of lying, deception, or evil enlightenment that were occurring because the Fa was dominant in my mind and the evil forces couldn't find any way to hold on to me. I kept reciting all that I remembered of the Fa and what Teacher had taught us. During every minute, even while the trainer was trying to forcefully brainwash us, I didn't stop reciting Hong Yin and Teacher's articles to myself. Thus, they could not find a method to prevent me from studying the Fa with a calm mind.

Amidst the tribulations caused by my human attachments, my most painful regret was that I hadn't memorized Zhuan Falun or studied the Fa as diligently as I could have before I was detained in the labor camp. Whatever Teacher told us is the Fa. While detained in the camp, I was constantly reciting Hong Yin and comprehending the deeper meaning of the Fa at a different level. Many times, when I felt Teacher's immense compassion and I reached a new level of Fa understanding, tears would well up in my eyes. My persistence in studying the Fa with a quiet mind allowed me to comprehend the vast meaning of the Fa. The Fa bestowed wisdom upon me and let me understand where those evil instructions were coming from, and how the truth was distorted and twisted. I was able to walk through that kind of evil environment because the Fa was the only thing in my mind. I also realized that whoever can study the Fa with a calm mind in any kind of situation is the one who cannot be brainwashed even in the most severe environment--without exception.

Actually, practitioners that experienced "evil enlightenment" were only manifesting evil thoughts from other dimensions; the old forces and demons found loopholes in practitioners with human attachments. Those thoughts were not coming from the brainwashed practitioners' true natures. Many were being "transformed" because of their extremely weak main consciousnesses and confused mindsets. Evil elements in other dimensions were actually controlling and persecuting them.

While confronting the slanderous talk and those practitioners falling into the "transformation" trap, we needed to recognize clearly that the evil demons and elements were in control. I realized that sending righteous thoughts to eradicate the evil elements at this time was a must. In the forced labor camp, I persisted in sending righteous thoughts whether facing evil enlightened people, vicious police officers, vicious people, or the slandering materials and audio and video products. Although I couldn't see with my third eye, I understood from the standpoint of the Fa that anything, even just a sentence, materially exists in other dimensions; therefore, one needs to persistently eradicate the evil elements with righteous thoughts.

Two incidents impressed me deeply: When the police forced us to listen to some sham "criticizing material," I relaxed a bit and was not as persistent in sending righteous thoughts as usual and so, I felt something very wrong¨Cdizziness. I immediately and persistently sent righteous thoughts to eradicate the evil elements. Still, it took a long time to eradicate this condition. Different evil elements have different damaging effects; we should never be careless about any kind of evil element.

One time, a collaborator wanted to chat with me. A thought came to me: "Isn't it a great opportunity to clarify the truth? If there is still hope to save him, let him come to talk to me." When he talked he quoted distorted facts. During our conversation, I suddenly thought about the possibility of evil elements backing him up and fear came to me. Instantly, I felt dizzy because of this thought. Recognizing this, I screamed within my heart: "Teacher, please help me!" In the meantime, I also sent righteous thoughts towards this person. Immediately, a hot current came from the top of my head and passed through my body. My thinking became clear instantly, and at that moment I realized that our compassionate Teacher is always with us. Afterwards, I heard the collaborator saying: "Ouch! Why do I feel so dizzy?"

After that, he listened attentively to what I was saying. When he left I noticed that he did so reluctantly.

Due to attachments, the person being "transformed" is one that has gradually lost contact with his true nature. This kind of person descends deeper and deeper, and his true nature is very saddened by this behavior. Yet, they are different than other beings. Our great Teacher is still waiting with immense compassion for them to return, and the sentient beings in their cosmoses are waiting painfully for them to awaken. We use righteous thoughts to eradicate the evils that persecute and control them, to help them awaken from the standpoint of the Fa, and to reestablish their righteous belief.

I am a medical doctor. This year I have been using opportunities that arise in my profession and in my spare time to clarify the truth and spread Dafa, and the results have been very good.

Every day I come in contact with many patients, giving me a perfect opportunity to clarify the truth of Falun Dafa to them. Each time, just before I speak to somebody, I first hold this thought: "I came here with a historic mission to provide salvation to this person; let everything not righteous dissolve." The results of sending forth-righteous thoughts in this manner are very good. No matter how deeply the person has been deceived or how hateful he or she appears to be towards Dafa, after I explain the facts again and again, the person in the end understands that Dafa is good and sees through the media's absurd lies. I have clarified the truth to patients while they were receiving their Intravenous treatments and have provided Dafa materials or books for them to read. My approach is different each time. I play it by ear based on each person's situation. If they want to learn, I leave a phone number and find a time in the future to talk to them face to face. Based on the opinion they have towards Dafa, I give them different Dafa materials. Sometimes I give them Dafa books, and sometimes I invite them to my house to listen to Master's lectures and exercise tapes. Everybody who comes to my house is someone that I've talked to on many occasions and with whom I have an in-depth understanding. To eliminate loopholes so the evil can't exploit them, I hide all the Dafa materials in my house and prepare everything ahead of time before they come. If the person is very sincere, I take him or her to a veteran practitioner's house to watch Master's VCD to learn the exercises and share experiences to help the person to further advance.

Everywhere I go, grocery shopping, visiting relatives and friends, riding the bus, or going to my workplace, I take Dafa materials with me. If I distribute materials on the road, I send forth righteous thoughts, "Evil people can't see this Dafa material or me, but let everybody who has predestined relationships see it." The results are always very good. In fact, many people voluntarily ask for Dafa materials from me.

(Clearwisdom.net) I can see nothing while sending forth righteous thoughts. Nonetheless, I really feel that sending forth righteous thoughts has brought about significant changes in the surrounding environment. The following are a few small stories:

One of my college roommates previously did not believe that Jiang's regime could ever commit such cruel and sinister crimes. Not long ago, she found me and talked with me for a whole evening. After that, she realized that her past views were wrong. She came to understand that it is indeed true that Jiang's gang has been brutally persecuting Dafa practitioners. She then asked me to tell her more about Falun Gong and the persecution. She also asked me a lot of questions about the contents of Dafa books. She further acknowledged that Dafa books are something different. She then expressed that she would definitely read Dafa books carefully once she gets the chance.

An elderly member of my family has come to know the goodness of Dafa and has also read many Dafa books. However, being worried about my personal safety, she often finds some excuses to try to prevent me from doing Fa-rectification work. At the beginning, I felt unhappy and helpless. Later, through fellow practitioners' reminding me and through my exchange of views with them, I realized that I should treat this issue with a righteous mind. So when I met her again, while sending forth righteous thoughts, I explained to her the principles from different angles, and also clarified the facts about the persecution. Finally, she said, "You are so determined. I am just unable to convince you. I will not try to do that anymore."

My brother's girlfriend did not understand Dafa. I told her, from an ordinary person's point of view, about the persecution of Dafa practitioners, and also asked her to make her own judgment. I said, "People want to learn and practice Falun Gong by their own will, and they have done no bad deeds whatsoever. In fact, Falun Gong has brought a lot of benefits to society. It has uplifted people's morality. Why did the government have to beat people to that extent, and even kill them?!" She then raised questions about the Jiang regime's lies about killing people, as it was aired on television, and also about the staged "Tiananmen Square Self-immolation" incident. I explained to her the various doubtful points of those fabricated cases. After that, she said, "It appears that politics, in order to achieve its goals, is indeed very dirty. People just practice the exercises and have done nothing wrong. Why lie so much about them? Without a doubt, this is wrong! People are tortured so terribly. Such good people's lives were ruined." So she thus began to think of things with a clear mind.

Once I sent forth righteous thoughts together with a fellow practitioner. We both noticed that the effect was many times better than when we did it separately. We were in a very good state of sending forth righteous thoughts. Dafa disciples as one body are really powerful. If conditions permit, we should try to send forth righteous thoughts together.

I have a friend who is a Christian. There are many Dafa practitioners in her neighborhood. She said that she had personally witnessed many Dafa miracles. Although she has not learned Dafa yet, she and many other Christians in her area believe that Dafa is really magnificent and is a righteous way of cultivation. She further said, "No one believes in the Party. It only tells lies, and none of what it says is true. It has done too many bad things."

A person that I met through the Internet is a construction worker. After reading the truth-clarification website that I pointed him to, he said, "It was well written, and I feel that it is good. Thank you." There was another person I met on the Internet telling me that although he still did not believe in Dafa, he was surprised that Dafa practitioners can persist for such a long time in such a cruel environment. He also did not understand why there are more and more people coming to learn this cultivation practice and why there are so many practitioners. He said that if he had a chance, he would really want to read the books and see for himself what is inside and why people are so attracted to it.

Once an older lady in the countryside was talking about the staged self-immolation. I asked her, "Please think about why, among so many people who practice Falun Dafa, there were only those five people staging the self-immolation? Furthermore, Tiananmen Square is so big, and where did the fire extinguishers come from all of a sudden? That man was burnt very badly, but why was the plastic gasoline bottle in his chest area still perfectly intact?" Listening to my words, she suddenly understood and said to me, "Young man, you think about things so thoroughly. After listening to your words, I now understand. The self-immolation was fake! I will no longer believe it. What they are doing is really ruining people!"

HONG KONG (AP)--About 30 Falun Gong members marched peacefully to government headquarters Tuesday, urging local officials to seek the release of three Hong Kong practitioners detained in mainland China.

Falun Gong spokesman Tony Chan said several Hong Kong leaders, including No. 2 government official Donald Tsang, received petitions but made no commitment to help.

Falun Gong said it wants freedom for detainees including 46-year-old businessmen Chu O-ming, who is serving a five-year prison term in the northeastern city of Tianjin for filing a 2000 lawsuit against China's then-President Jiang Zemin.

Falun Gong also wants help freeing security guard Cheung Yu-chong, 58, who is serving a three-year sentence for possessing Falun Gong pamphlets and VCDs. The third one, businessman Suen Chung-man, 47, is serving four years for keeping Falun Gong VCDs and mailing 40 Falun Gong leaflets to Chinese government offices.

Hong Kong's Security Bureau, which is supposed to assist Hong Kong people who have problems in mainland China, didn't immediately return calls from The Associated Press.

Beijing banned Falun Gong in 1999 [...]. The group remains legal in Hong Kong, a former British colony that reverted to Chinese rule in 1997 but still enjoys Western-style civil liberties under its local government.

Thousands of its mainland followers have been detained and activists abroad say hundreds of them have died in police custody from beatings or mistreatment. [...]

The Falun Dafa booth displayed Falun Dafa books in more than 30 languages, including Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Spanish, Thai, and Indonesian and so on. As China is persecuting Falun Gong, the booth looked prominent at the book fair. Many people asked for information and materials about the facts of Falun Gong, and raised questions. Many people attentively looked at the photos depicting Falun Dafa's popularity around the world and the persecution in China. Tourists from China also came to the booth to look at materials.

While Falun Gong practitioners demonstrated the exercises, people passing by stopped and learned to practice the exercises in groups, and many people, including government officials bought Falun Gong books and exercise instruction VCDs to learn to practice at home. The book fair lasted for five days, and about ten thousand people came to the Falun Dafa booth to ask for materials.

There is a deadly but covert campaign of terror that has been going on for four years. This is a terror committed by a state against its own people. It is the persecution of Falun Gong, implemented by China's former dictator Jiang Zemin.

Falun Gong (also known as Falun Dafa) is a practice for improving body, mind and spirit. Practitioners do five simple exercises that look somewhat like Tai Chi and include meditation. We try to improve ourselves by living according to the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance.

This is called "cultivation" and is deeply rooted in traditional Chinese culture.

The U.S. State Department and Amnesty International confirm that China's regime has ordered the arrest, detention and torture of Falun Gong practitioners. Friends and family members have confirmed the deaths of 780 people, killed while in detention. Untold thousands have been subjected to brainwashing, forced labor, torture and abuse in mental institutions.

China's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners has extended to U.S. residents and citizens. Palm Coast resident Li Meizi has been detained in China since last November, when she returned to China to visit her parents. The Chinese regime is even detaining a U.S. citizen who practices Falun Gong. At the beginning of this year, Dr. Charles Li was arrested when he went back to China. He was sentenced to three years in prison for intending to expose the regime's illegal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. He has been subjected to torture, brainwashing and force-feeding.

Falun Gong practitioners in the United States are staging a coast-to-coast rescue drive to raise awareness of the injustice against Dr. Li and other illegally detained Falun Gong practitioners. As part of this effort, Florida Falun Gong practitioners are driving to major cities in the state to inform the public of Dr. Li's plight. The car tour began in Tampa, Sept. 12.

We believe that it is our responsibility to speak out on behalf of those who cannot be heard, to bear witness on behalf of those who cannot testify. We encourage American citizens and residents to help us urge the U. S. Department of State to send a clear message to China: We want Li Meizi, Charles Li, and all the other illegally detained Falun Gong practitioners released immediately.

(Clearwisdom.net, September 29, 2003) With the Fa-rectification speeding up, we get more and more busy but are still paying more attention to our children's cultivation environment. On the morning of Sunday, September 28, half-day Fa-study classes for both children and adults were held in National Tao-Yuan Agricultural & Industrial Vocational High School.

Since China Post happened to have some activities on the same campus at the same time, many people were there. It worked out very well for introducing Falun Dafa and our signature collection activities. It was a wise arrangement by our compassionate Teacher.

Children's class agenda included Fa-study, doing exercises, sending forth righteous thoughts, painting, story-telling and singing. To make it easier for them, we put younger children in one class and older children in another.

Although they are young, many of the children can recite "On Buddha Law" and "Hongyin". The children looked forward to story time and listened to stories by Dafa practitioners with great attention. How happy they were when inspired from the stories about "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance"! Practitioners' careful preparation for story-telling and teaching really paid off.

For us adults, some studied the Fa and shared experiences, and some went to collect signatures on campus. The community activity by China Post "coincided" with ours and gave us a perfect chance of truth-clarification to the crowds of people.

This is the fifth time I've been detained. I have been on hunger strike for 14 days. I firmly remember Master Li's teaching and clarify the truth to people. Xiao Zhang is the policeman who monitors us, and he is not vicious now because he understands the truth about Falun Gong. He even provides opportunities for me to practice the exercises. When I study the Fa at night, he will sit facing the wall and pretend that he doesn't see me. When I practice my exercises in the morning and at night, he will lie down and pretend that he is sleeping.

One evening I told him a story about how doing bad deeds will be repaid with retribution and doing good deeds will be repaid with rewards. He listened carefully. After the story he filled half a bowl of water for me and said, "I know Falun Dafa is good. All Falun Gong practitioners are good people. I work here because I have no choice. In the future when you practice your exercises, go over there (pointing to the back of the door); if you want to read things, don't let people see you. You are an elderly man and you haven't taken any food for more than 10 days. There is no one around, take a drink of water. You should get out of here alive." His righteous behavior was the result of understanding the truth. I believe that under Master Li and Dafa's calling, there will be more and more "Xiao Zhang's" awakening and being saved.

I have a relative who was 80 years old this year. His face had a big lump with bloody fluid constantly dripping out. He relied on injections to stop the pain. He could not eat and just wanted to die early so that he would not suffer. When I visited him, I brought truth-clarifying materials and CD's and clarified the truth to the other relatives. After seeing the materials, many people said Dafa was good. The patient lying on the bed said, "Since Falun Gong is so good, all of you should learn then. I am too old, otherwise I would practice too."

A few days later, the elderly man's lump dried up and got smaller and smaller. The pain was gone also. He then said to everyone he met, "Falun Gong is really good and incredible. After I said Falun Gong was good, my illness was cured."

One day I clarified the truth to an official of an organization. When I mentioned that Falun Gong has quickly spread all over the world, he said, "China's political Party was established in 1921. There are only 60 million Party members currently. Falun Gong started to spread in the public in 1992 and there were over 100 million people practicing it after just a few years. At that time, Jiang Zemin was the number one man. How could he tolerate Falun Gong? If he did not make up false stories, how could he ban and persecute Falun Gong? He even screamed that the Party would defeat Falun Gong. Falun Gong is not easy to defeat and the more you persecute it the more people will practice. Now it has spread all over the world..."

Uncle Wu and his wife used to work for the government. They were sick for many years and could not be cured. They started to practice after we introduced Falun Gong. Once they learned and practiced, all their diseases went away. They repeatedly said that Dafa is good and they joined the effort to clarify the truth and introduce Dafa.

(Clearwisdom.net) According to the July 22^nd, 2003 Beijing Evening News, the Supreme People's Procuratorate has made available to the media its special investigation project concerning over-term imprisonment and the actions needed to be taken to correct it. The news spokesperson of the Procuratorate claimed that three provincial level chief procurators had made self-criticisms to admit their mistakes to the Procuratorate.

The Procuratorate had already drafted investigation regulations for over-term imprisonment. After discussion and approval by experts, the regulations were to be distributed to subordinate procuratorates for enforcement. These regulations stipulated that if the result of over-term imprisonment is serious and violates criminal laws, then legal responsibility should be pursued. Vice chief procurator Zhao Dengju of the Procuratorate said over-term imprisonment is the same as illegal detention, and from now on it is absolutely not allowed to use deceptive tactics such as rejection of inspections, cancellation of prosecution, and change of jurisdiction to continue imprisonment of suspects or defendants over the limits of their terms.

(Clearwisdom.net) A "solemn declaration" is a person's public statement declaring to the world that whatever he or she has done or said under duress or deception that was against Falun Dafa is null and void. Most of these statements have come from Falun Dafa practitioners in China who wished to express regret that, in the face of physical torture and brainwashing, they had signed documents renouncing Dafa and guaranteeing not to practice again. Also, as more and more people in China learn the truth about how they have been deceived and lied to by the Jiang regime, many non-practitioners are also submitting "solemn declarations."

When I was in elementary school, under my teacher's pressure, I signed my name on a cloth defaming Falun Dafa. This was not my idea, so I was unhappy and felt regret afterwards. Thus, I would hereby like to declare that anything I signed in the past is null and void. In the future I will study the Fa well, follow the Universe's standard, and control what I should and should not do. I need to repair the damages I did to Dafa.

On the afternoon of September 5, 2003, the school principals Chang Guomin, Xiao Kaixian (female), Gu Guanghai and Li Shaokun collaborated with police to arrest 48-year-old Ms. Zhou Jingling while she was teaching a class, and sent her to Wuhan City Brainwashing Center. The school was required to hand in 10,000 Yuan and provide one person to "assist" during the brainwashing.

On the evening of September 17, 2003, police from the Renhe District, Panzhihua City again arrested four Dafa practitioners. They are Mr. Yu Chuancheng, Mr. Liu Shibo, Ms. Fu Tingjie and Mr. Tang Shiguo.

Recently, in order to raise their so-called "transformation rate," Fushun City Forced Labor Camp officials sent a dozen determined Dafa practitioners to the notorious Luotai Brainwashing Center for even more vicious and cruel persecution. They are attempting to force practitioners to give up their belief in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance."

According to people in the military, a Dafa practitioner couple was recently sentenced to two and three years of imprisonment, respectively. Both their military ranks are senior captain. Their names and whereabouts are to be investigated.

In the middle of June, the police from Hangzhou City arrested practitioners Mr. Zhou Lin and Mr. Wu Liren. It is said that Zhou Lin has been sent into a forced labor camp and Wu Liren is still in a detention center. The reason for Zhou Lin's arrest was that he distributed an advisory suggesting people to be good people and remember "Truth-Compassion-Tolerance," but the police thought it was Wu Liren who printed and distributed the material. So the police confiscated their computers, printers and CD-writers.

From September 16, 2003, the police from Fanjiatun, Gongzhuling City in Jilin Province started arresting practitioners who clarify the truth. There is a 5,000 Yuan* reward for arresting a practitioner.

At 5:00 a.m. on September 6, 2003, more than a dozen "610 Office"** personnel and policemen broke into Mr. Zhao Yongbo's home to arrest Zhao and his wife with the excuse of someone having reported them. The police handcuffed Mr. Zhao before they threw him into the police car. Then the police pushed his wife, Ms. Zhao Guohong, on the ground and dragged her. Mrs. Zhao's clothes were torn open. She resisted and shouted for help. On hearing this, Mr. Zhao's angry father came carrying a bicycle pump and ran towards the police. The police released Ms. Zhao and drove away. Zhao Yongpo, though, was detained at Langfang City Brainwashing Center.

A Dafa truth-clarifying materials production site was destroyed at Chengde City, Hebei Province. Several practitioners were arrested.

On September 11, 2003, the day of the mid-autumn festival, Dafa practitioners in a county of Henan Province successfully hung a speaker in front of a detention center. On that day, the speaker suddenly began to broadcast, which attracted the attention of many passers-by and people inside the detention center. When they got to know the broadcast was about suing Jiang in many places in the world, kind-hearted people stopped to listen carefully.

At 2:00 p.m. on September 13, 2003, over a dozen Dafa practitioners from a city in northern Hebei Province successfully held a small experience sharing conference in a Dafa practitioner's home. They sent forth righteous thoughts together, recited Lun Yu and studied Teaching the Fa at the 2003 Washington, D.C. Fa Conference. Later they sincerely exchanged their experiences on how to break through the self to follow along with the process of Fa-rectification and discovered existing loopholes. Practitioners thus got a deeper and clearer understanding of the Fa during this conference. They will help each other and will improve as a whole body.

Zhang Rui, Hou, Ding Jianhua and several other perpetrators from Public Security Division for Xiangyang Police Department in Hegang City indulged in a frenzy of persecution against Dafa practitioners after July 20, 1999. They often abducted Dafa practitioners and ransacked their homes. Fang Jinfan, a residential committee official from Gongnong District No. 45 Section, Hegang City often monitored Dafa practitioners and led police to ransack their homes. He repeatedly tore up truth clarification flyers and lowered Dafa practitioners' basic living fee. Li Enhou, a police officer from the National Security Division of Hegang City Police Department, brutally tortured Dafa practitioners. On April 23, 2002, Zhang Rui, the head of Security Division from this Xiangyang Police Department, Zhuang, Nanyi Police Station head and several other police officers went to a shop owned by a Dafa practitioner in an attempt to arrest him. He wasn't in the shop that day. The perpetrators abducted his younger sister and took away the shop ownership deed. They often went to this Dafa practitioner's home to harass him.

The perpetrators at Jiamusi City Labor Camp brutally torture Dafa practitioners. They force the practitioners to do slave labor daily for long periods of time. When letters from the practitioners' family arrived, the guards read them first and then they punished the practitioners with different methods. Sometimes they even notified the local police departments to arrest the practitioners' family members. Every time a family tries to visit a practitioner, they have to answer the guards' questions and say what the guards want to hear. If they are slow in answering, they are not allowed to meet with the practitioner. Some families had to spend 10,000 Yuan* to have the practitioner released, which created a tremendous financial burden on the family.

The perpetrators at the Nanmusi Labor Camp in Sichuan Province use the following methods to persecute Dafa practitioners: they order collaborators [former Falun Gong practitioners who have gone astray due to torture and brainwashing] to bombard newly arrived practitioners with lies in order to deceive them. They order two collaborators to follow each practitioner seven days a week, around the clock, and every day a group of collaborators would talk to the practitioners and try to instill lies. Twice or three times a week they force practitioners to attend a "criticizing conference," or they force the practitioners to read Dafa-slandering materials. For practitioners who refuse to attend the meetings, the perpetrators handcuff and shackle them. They pull these practitioners to the front to force them to listen to the lies. Practitioners who shout "Falun Dafa is good" at the meetings would be cuffed to a tree and shocked with electric batons while being beaten and kicked. Determined practitioners are forced to stand against a wall from early morning to midnight every day, and they are forced to listen to Dafa-slandering tapes. Every week and before holidays, the perpetrators would search the practitioners. If they found Dafa articles, they would torture the practitioner by forcing him or her to stand in a military posture all day long under the scorching sun, and his or her sentence would be extended by several months. They use all kinds of means to try to brainwash and deceive the practitioners.

The perpetrators at No. 1 Detention Center in Cangzhou City in Hebei Province force detainees to do heavy manual labor, and they beat the inmates if they can't finish the work. The authorities extort money from inmates using all kinds of methods. The detainees often had twisted mentalities from long-term torture. In such a unique environment, Dafa practitioners awakened the goodness in these inmates, and most of them understood, sympathized and supported Dafa practitioners after they heard the facts.
