Dear Charles:

A year has gone by and your birthday is coming up soon. This year, on January 22, the Lunar Spring Festival and your birthday happen to coincide. I miss you very much. I wish you a happy Spring Festival and a happy birthday! I will pass along your holiday greetings to our Teacher and to everyone else. I am so proud to know that your commitment to Dafa is rock solid.

January 22 of this year is also the first anniversary of your arrest. Recently, I learned some information about you from the officials at the American Consulate in Shanghai. One of the staff members there told me that she visited you in Nanjing prison on December 17, 2003. She found out that in addition to brainwashing you, the prison also forces you to work. Prison officials were still instructing inmates to beat you and confiscated your reading materials. The inmates were still watching you around the clock and reported your actions to prison officials.

More than one hundred Chinese currently living overseas have family members back home being detained by Jiang's regime for practicing Falun Gong. I myself have participated in global activities to rescue family members of overseas Falun Gong practitioners. In California, local newspapers and TV stations have reported on what happened to you. In this manner, many people heard about the torments you have suffered in China. People have often told me: "Please, tell Charles Li to remain firm in his beliefs," "What can I do to help you?" and "We hope that you will be reunited soon." Last year, on December 14, we held an activity in Union Square, San Francisco to send postcards appealing for the rescue of family members of overseas Falun Gong practitioners in China. Many people came to support us. A westerner wrote on the postcard: "Dr. Li, you brought compassion to us. You must remain steadfast. We thank you."

On December 9, the Mayor of Irvine, California, Larry Agaron, wrote a letter to the American ambassador in China, Mr. Randt, to appeal for his help to end the Chinese government's transgressions against human rights, and to demand your release and that of all other prisoners of conscience. He said: "Standing together with millions of Americans, I request [that the Chinese government] release Dr. Charles Li and all other prisoners of conscience immediately." The student body of the famous University of California at Los Angeles voted 11 to 0 to pass a co-signed letter to President Bush urging him to pay close attention to the persecution you have suffered at the hands of Jiang's regime, and appealed to the American government to help you regain your freedom. Many senators and congressmen wrote letters to President Bush and the State Department urging the American government to intervene and demanding that the Chinese government end the persecution immediately.

Many Falun Gong practitioners all over the world constantly hold rallies in front of their local Chinese Consulates, demanding that the Chinese Government release you immediately and unconditionally. In the middle of November, when the practitioners in the San Francisco Bay Area learned that you were being brainwashed three hours a day by Jiang's regime to force you to admit guilt, and that you were beaten by drug abusers and criminal offenders in prison, they held a press conference in front of the Chinese Consulate the next day to expose the Jiang regime's increasing persecution. Falun Gong spokesman Huang Zuwei in Washington DC held a press conference in front of the Chinese Embassy. He said, "We are gathering here to support our friend and fellow-Falun Gong practitioner, the American citizen Dr. Charles Li. Mr. Charles Li is now in a Chinese prison bearing the torture of being brainwashed all by himself." On the evening of Friday, November 21 candles lit up the main sports field of the American University in Washington DC. It was a candlelight vigil organized by the Falun Dafa Club of American University. Many students, professors, and alumni from various backgrounds made speeches in English, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese, urging the Chinese government to release you from your unjust detention.

I have been traveling to many places to appeal for your release. Early in December, together with other practitioners, I made a speech before the City Council of San Diego to expose the treatment of Jiang's regime on you by forced brainwashing. On the same day, we attended a rally of the new governor of California downtown. We explained the truth to over 4,000 people from all walks of life asking them to help you return to America soon and to end the persecution. I told them that to force you to give up his belief, Jiang's regime mobilized one prison guard, one policeman, and six inmates to watch his every activity, including bathroom use and sleep. They also forced you to read materials slandering Falun Dafa. If you tried to explain the truth to them, you were attacked and brutally tortured.

As long as the Chinese regime will not release you, we will continue to expose all those who torment you, and their evil deeds. At the same time, we will tell more and more people about the glory of Falun Dafa and the truth of the persecution. We are all looking forward to the day when we welcome you back home with fresh flowers. I firmly believe that the day is not too far away.

On January 21, a Canadian multi-cultural TV Station OMNI2 announced the results of a survey during its Chinese program: 63% of participants of the survey agree the former Chinese President Jiang Zemin should be denied entry into Canada due to his persecuting Falun Gong.

On January 20, 2004, representatives of the Falun Dafa Association of Canada and the renowned human rights lawyer Mr. Matas held a press conference at the Canadian Parliament. The news conference announced that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have opened a case about the persecution of Falun Gong in China and have accepted an initial list of 15 names, together with evidence of their crimes.

The list includes: the former Chinese president Jiang Zemin; members of the Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party Politburo; Luo Gan, the head of 610 Office; and Liu Qi, the Mayor of Beijing . If these officials want to come to Canada, their visas will be denied, thus barring them from entering Canada, subjecting them to deportation, or exposing them to potential lawsuits by those who have already entered Canada.

With their headquarters in Toronto, the OMNI2 TV Station broadcast the news on the same day they conducted a telephone survey in the local Chinese Community.

The question of the survey was: "Do you think Jiang Zemin and other high ranking Chinese officials should be barred entry into Canada for persecuting Falun Gong?"

OMNI2 TV Station announced the survey results on January 21, 2004: 63% of the participants support barring entry for Jiang Zemin and into Canada.

The RCMP's Crimes Against Humanity and the War Crimes Program was originally established during the 1980s for war criminals of World War II. It was later extended to include modern war criminals and crimes against humanity. During fiscal 2001-2002, Canada refused to issue visas to 445 such criminals, deported 46, and investigated 667 individual cases.

The chairman of the Falun Dafa Association of Canada Mr. Li Xun says that Falun Gong practitioners have just handed in another list of 30 names and the evidence of their crimes in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners in China. They will file more lists of up to over 10,000 names of those who are suspected of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.

(Clearwisdom.net) As a result of political pressure from Jiang Zemin's regime's, Falun Gong was excluded from a Chinese New Year parade held in the Champs-Elysees, Paris' largest avenue. Cybercast News Service covered the story in a report about Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to France.

According to the report, Alain Tong, president of the Falun Gong Association of France, said his organization was turned down from participating in the New Year's parade even though their request was handed in to authorities on time and scores of other associations were invited to take part.

"We were excluded because of the pressure from (military chief) Jiang Zemin's regime - not Hu Jintao's - because he [Jiang] is afraid that his criminal acts against Falun Gong will be publicly revealed," Tong said. "I believe they pressured the French organizers to exclude Falun Gong."

Tong said since Jiang decided to crack down on the Falun Gong movement four years ago, more than 870 followers have been killed and hundreds of thousands have been interned in labor camps and psychiatric hospitals.

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioners had originally planned to hold a series of activities to celebrate the Spring Festival [Chinese New Year] and to expose the Jiang regime's persecution. Practitioners applied for permission as usual. Instigated by an evil manipulator, the Chinese Embassy obstructed the activities and applied pressure to the relevant French departments. (Clearwisdom.net) Chinese president Hu Jintao began a four-day visit to France on January 26, 2004. Some international organizations in Paris hoped the French government leaders would bring up the persecution of Falun Gong during their meeting with Hu Jintao. Falun Gong practitioners welcomed Hu Jintao and at the same time requested that Jiang Zemin, the head of the criminal persecution of Falun Gong, be brought to justice.

Mr. Wu, a Falun Gong practitioner from Europe discussed practitioners' plans for Hu Jintao's visit to Paris. He said, "We plan to unfurl banners to welcome Hu Jintao's visit to France and ask that Jiang Zemin be brought to justice. We don't participate in politics. We are only asking for an end to the persecution of our fellow practitioners. We are a cultivation group. Our goal is to see that every Falun Gong practitioner in Mainland China enjoys the freedom to practice Falun Gong. Jiang Zemin single-handedly directed this persecution, which has deprived practitioners of such freedom."

According to a report on Clearwisdom in December 2003, when Chinese premier Wen Jiabao visited the U.S., Falun Gong practitioners unfurled two prominent banners reading, "Welcome Wen Jiabao to the US," and "Bring Jiang Zemin to Justice," which attracted much attention. Falun Gong practitioners said, "We only oppose individuals who took part in the persecution, and we oppose Jiang's illegal persecution of Falun Gong. During the past more than four years, we have tried very hard to stop this persecution and our goal is very clear."

On July 20, 1999, Jiang Zemin launched his persecution of Falun Gong, bringing gross injustice and savage mistreatment upon millions of Falun Gong practitioners over the last four years. At the same time, Jiang's group used the media to spread slander to defame Falun Gong. It also abused its power to block the truth, so that not only the public but also many government officials were deceived.

So far, Falun Gong practitioners in the U.S., Belgium, Spain, Germany, Taiwan, Korea and other countries around the world have filed lawsuits against Jiang Zemin and the "610 Office," charging him with genocide and other crimes. Never have there been so many lawsuits filed against a single head of state within such a short time. Falun Gong practitioners will investigate the countless crimes Jiang and his accomplices have committed in persecuting Falun Gong until justice prevails.

(Clearwisdom.net) Lei Guoming harassed several female Falun Gong practitioners and attacked others who had been on hunger strike for days. He died of heart attack on November 1, 2002.

On the afternoon of July 13 2001, practitioners held a press conference outside the Chinese Consulate in Chicago with the title "SOS Urgent Rescue of Chinese practitioners being persecuted" and the announcement that a delegation of four practitioners would start the journey to Washington, DC that afternoon. The media invitations were sent out before July 10^th.

After hearing the news that China won the application to host the 2008 Olympics, the Chinese Consulate in Chicago wanted to organize a celebration on July 13. About 2pm, practitioner Ms. Lu Feng was being interviewed by three reporters. Around 2:40pm, a group of men approached the practitioners and began to curse them. The practitioners kept calm and didn't fight back.

A man named Qiu Chaolian cursed practitioners. Another, named Mei Guoxin, touched a woman's breasts and tore the printed materials out of her arms three times.

Qiu and Lei Guoming kicked down display boards in front of the practitioners many times. After that, Lei Guoming made sexually harassing gestures and yelled insulting words to young female practitioners in front of the many guests invited by China consulate.

One practitioner asked, "Why do consular officials act like thugs to harass Falun Gong?" One official answered, "He is not consulate officer. He is American citzen." The practitioner said, "Then why did you hire thugs?"

Later the thugs hid inside the Chinese consulate. When police arrived, they took down complaints about the behavior of Qiu Chaolian and Mei Guoxin.

The man in the picture with his finger pointing forward is Lei Guoming. On November 1 2002, Lei Guoming, who was only about 50 years old, died of heart attack.

The Chinese have long believed that the "heavenly law never misses any punishment". The other two thugs, Zheng Jiming and Weng Yujun, attacked practitioners on hunger strike for days. They were found guilty in court and the immigration bureau has been investigating their asylum application.

(Clearwisdom.net) On January 24, 2004 practitioners participated in the "Four seas celebrates Spring Festival" event in the southern California cities of Alhambra and San Gabriel, both of which have many Chinese residents. This is one of the biggest events of the year in the Chinese community. The event includes a parade and a street-market. Each year the event attracts many Chinese and Spanish-speaking people. This is the first time Falun Gong practitioners obtained a booth in the street-market.

During the first-day activities, many Chinese came to our booth to ask for materials. The booth often had a lot of visitors. Many people asked, "Can I take some more copies for my family members?" "Where can I learn the exercises?" "I have read this before, do you have any new materials?" Some people were afraid to take truth materials at first, later they changed their mind after talking to our practitioners.

(Clearwisdom.net) On December 13 2003, practitioners in San Diego, California participated in the annual holiday parade at Pacific Beach and won high praise from the audience and organizers. Falun Gong won the two highest prizes of the event, including best entry overall.

Leading the Falun Gong procession was a banner written in Chinese and English "Falun Dafa". Next, it was the meticulously decorated float. The sides of the float read "Falun Dafa is good" and "The World Needs Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance".

Practitioners on the float demonstrated the exercises continuously. Following the float were six female practitioners dancing. The last section was composed of 20 practitioners playing waist drums. The Falun Gong possession was magnificent and peaceful. The practitioners showed the beauty of Dafa to the audience through different methods. The audience gave applause all the way. From time and time, some in the audience waved their hands to the practitioners and some pressed their hands together to greet to them.

Practitioners began to clarify the truth to parade organizers from the beginning of the application process and introduced the beauty of Falun Dafa to them, winning their understanding early on. The organizers gave Falun Dafa a good spot in the parade and also special permission to distribute flyers along the streets.

Fear is itself a factor of being human. To a cultivator that has not reached consummation, there exists to some extent an attachment to fear. The final goal of cultivation is getting rid of all attachments, and having no fear, so that the indestructible light of Fa- rectification of Dafa disciples can manifest. That is what the evil is afraid of the most--that is what the evil dislikes seeing the most. In fact, fear tests us fundamentally on the way we treat cultivation. If a cultivator deep down inside is guarding his personal gain, and would rather not give his life to guard the Fa, it doesn't matter how much he talks about having no fear, it is false. The shortcomings of one instantaneous thought can result in looking at things from the wrong point of view, in growing many deviated mentalities, and it can lead us down a side road, which delays our saving more sentient beings, and even gives the evil gaps to take advantage of.

According to Master's teaching of inter-generation and inter-inhibition, I enlightened that facing conflicts and problems, a cultivator should not be buried in human notions, and should go above and beyond the old principles, seeing through things with rationality rooted in the cultivation in Dafa. Then one can be excluded from the limitation of inter-generation and inter-inhibition. Then one can be as calm as pure water unrippled by waves, as indestructible as diamond, and like a God.

On December 13, 2003, a ruthless official named, Wang Tianyi, from Zhoukou City, Henan Province, went to Falun Dafa practitioner, Mr. Zhang Siying's home, and told him to write a guarantee stating that he would stop practicing Falun Gong. Mr. Zhang absolutely refused to do such a thing. Wang was very angry, and declared that Zhang must be mentally ill for refusing. He abused his power to have Zhang admitted to the Zhoukou City Mental Hospital. Once there, Wang had doctors tie Zhang up and inject an unknown drug into his head. Because of the injection, Zhang lost consciousness, developed an eye problem and felt disoriented. Fearing taking responsibility for harming Mr. Zhang, who had no previous history of mental illness, the mental hospital released him after he developed these medical conditions.

Police from Dashaping Prison, located in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, are very cruel towards Falun Dafa practitioners. They used five electric batons together to shock Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Guan Qiang, which injured his head, and then locked him up for 34 days in a solitary compartment. Police hung Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Shi Jinxiang by his cuffed hands, and shocked him with an electric baton in front of more than 150 people. Police handcuffed Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Qiang Xiaoyi for almost 60 days, and during that period, he was hung by his cuffed hands for three whole days. Mr. Wei Xinhua was hung by his cuffed hands for one whole day, and his wrist is now infected.

Ms. Huo Shuzhen, age 58, is a resident of Changlingzi Village, Tongjiangkou Town, Changtu County, Tieling City, Liaoning Province. On July 18, 2002, Party members in the village were watching a video exposing the corruption of former Mayor of Shenyang City, Mu Suixin, and Deputy Mayor Ma Xiangdong. Ms. Huo said during discussion time, "Falun Gong teaches people to be good. There would be no corruption if people practiced Falun Gong." Just because she spoke this one true sentence, she was abducted and brought to the Changtu County Detention Center around 6 p.m. on the same day, and was later sent to the Masanjia Labor Camp to serve a three year term with out proper legal procedure.

During the middle of December 2003, one police officer in the Tangshan City Labor Camp tried to force Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Yue Xinglai to betray his belief in the Falun Gong principle of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance, but Yue refused officer then tied up Yue, a 58-year-old man. On January 5, 2004, Falun Dafa practitioner, Mr. Yin Rongzhi sat on a bed to rest. The police officer said that Yin was not allowed to sit in a cross-legged position [suspecting he would practice his meditation] and dragged him down from the bed and threw him on the floor. Mr. Yin's head hit the metal frame of another bed. In pain from his injury, Mr. Yin shouted "Falun Dafa is Good!" The police officer quickly dragged him into the solitary compartment, and tied him up as well. Later Mr. Yin was sent to a "strict-control group" to be tortured more brutally.

Falun Dafa practitioner, Ms. Wang Shouxin is 47 years old. She has been jailed in the Banqiao Women's Labor Camp in Dagang District, Tianjin City since 2002 because she passed out truth-clarifying flyers to the public. She lost sight in both her eyes after being tortured. Yet, the labor camp refused to release her out on parole for medical treatment, and extended her term. Their excuse was that she refused to give up her belief.

Ms. Guo Shuqing from Taiping Village, Yunshan Town, Shandong Province was detained twice in Pingdu City because she went to Tiananmen to validate the Fa. On the evening of lunar calendar date October 8, 2001, she was abducted and brought to the police substation, cuffed around a tree, and locked on an iron chair, where she was left for four whole days. Later, she was sent to the Pantao Brainwashing class, and locked up there for nearly 50 days. With Master in her thoughts, she escaped that evil place on November 22, 2001, and was forced to live away from home and destitute in order to avoid being wrongfully arrested. No one knows if she is still alive.

A Zanhuang County "610 Office" worker in Hebei Province persecuted Mr. Lu Jitang and his sister Lu Yinxi. Mr. Lu had to become homeless to avoid being wrongfully arrested at home. He lost his job, and his sister was abducted and forced into brainwashing. Her speech has been impaired due to the severe torture she received.

On the evening of May 12, 2003, Falun Dafa practitioner, Ms. Jiang Julan and a fellow practitioner took a walk near her home, and were seized by a Neighborhood Administration worker Yu Sihai (male). Ms. Jiang resisted the abduction, but was beaten up by this evil man. She was forced to jump out a window in order to escape, and injured her foot as a result. Unable to walk, she was picked up and taken to the Torch Police Substation. Police officer Yang Zhibin (male) sent both of them to the Daqing City Detention Center. She was summarily given a labor camp sentence, and jailed in the Harbin City Drug Addictive Rehabilitation Center.

My name is Cui Shuzhi. I am 62 years old, and a resident of Zhaozhou County, Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. After my husband Lou Lixun and I started practicing Falun Dafa, all our sicknesses went away. In June of 2000, I was confined to a brainwashing class. My husband was put under extreme pressure to give up his practice of Falun Gong. I went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in December 2000, and was detained for 6 months in the Zhaozhou County Detention Center. I went through numerous forms of mental and physical torture there. I was forced to renounce my belief, and had 7,000 yuan extorted from me. Five months after I was released, my husband left me forever. My second oldest daughter was put in labor camp for practicing Falun Gong, and was not allowed to see her father go. Upon studying the Fa and exchanging insights with fellow practitioners, I have regained my confidence in practicing Falun Gong again. Thank you Master for giving me another chance. I want to do better, and will absolutely not betray my conscience and faith again.

Falun Dafa practitioner, Ms. He Hua had been tortured severely in the Heizuizi Labor Camp. Because she resisted the evil persecution, she was often cursed at, beaten up shocked with electric batons, and locked up in a small cell by police. Police also tortured her by exposing her to extremely cold temperatures and starving her. Once, police tied up the legs of He Hua and six other fellow practitioners and forced them to sit in the lotus position for more than nine hours a day for several days. Their legs all became crippled. Ms. He's term was extended another year on September 11, 2001, and she was sent to the Jiutai Labor Camp.

Former Falun Dafa Assistant Center Volunteer, Ms. Fu Lihua in Zhaozhou County, Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province was abducted in Erjingzi Township, and was tortured in the county detention center. She went on hunger strike, and escaped the detention center. Her physical condition has been bad since she was tortured, and she could not walk. On April 4, 2002, police stormed into her home, abducted her, and took her to the county detention center again. She was sentenced to four years of labor camp, and sent to the Harbin Women's Labor Camp. Her husband died that winter, but Ms. Fu was not allowed to see him in his last days. Their "excuse" for not releasing her was that she refused to give up her belief in the Falun Gong and its principle of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance.

After July 20, 1999, when the persecution of Falun Dafa began, Ms. Sheng Yu-E from Yunshan Town, Pingdu City, Shandong Province was harassed and tortured by local police, detained many times, beat up, and forced to become destitute and homeless in order to avoid being unlawfully arrested at home. On October 16, 2002, she was reported, and arrested, sentenced to labor camp, and sent to the Wangcun Labor Camp in Zibo City, Shandong Province.

In early 1999, a bureau chief's wife, in her 60's, suffered severe heart disease and had to be hospitalized. However, she didn't want to undergo surgery, as there was a risk that she wouldn't survive it. She had to take heart medication as many as 4 times each night. She talked to a friend who was a practitioner and told him that she wanted to learn Falun Gong but had heard that Falun Gong did not allow people to take medicine. The practitioner told her that this was a misunderstanding. Some people no longer took medication after practicing Falun Gong because their diseases were cured and so they didn't need to take medicine. Hearing that, she wanted to learn Falun Gong right away.

As soon as she had this thought, she started to experience changes in her body. The next morning, she told the practitioner that she only had to take her medicine three times during the previous night. She started to learn the exercise movements that day. On the next day, she told the practitioner that she only needed her medicine twice during the previous night. The practitioner told her that Master was taking care of her. She said, "If Master is already taking care of me then I don't need to take any medicine." Around 6 am the next day, she called the practitioner and told him that she woke up at dawn and realized that she hadn't needed to take any medicine during the previous night. She also said she would go to a practice site. From then on, the bureau chief's wife started to practice Falun Gong.

On her first day at a practice site, one practitioner showed her how to do the Standing Stance exercise. When she was practicing "Embracing the Wheel Before the Head," she entered into the state of Ding (a state of an empty, yet conscious mind). After she came out of Ding, she told the practitioner that she had experienced another dimension and had seen Master standing on a big lotus flower with a lot of large Faluns beside him, and the Faluns were circling each other. She said it was so grand that she even forgot the other practitioner was there.

The first time she joined the group study, she couldn't read any words in the book because of trouble with her eyesight. On the second day, she said it was better but she still needed to wear her glasses to read. Later on, she learned that many elderly practitioners no longer needed to wear their glasses. She thought maybe she didn't need to wear hers either. Then, she really could see clearly without her glasses. Thus, she got rid of the glasses that she had worn for over 10 years.

Not long after, the April 25 appeal by 10,000 practitioners in Zhongnanhai occurred. Local governments in China then received orders from above and started to harass people at the practice sites, so she lost the group practice environment she had just obtained.

In the beginning, she meditated every day. She entered into the state of Ding and felt very comfortable. After July 20, when Falun Gong was banned by Jiang Zemin, her contact with other practitioners became less and less frequent. At the same time, conflicts in her life started to become harder and harder. As she hadn't learned Dafa very deeply yet and her Xinxing hadn't had time to improve, when the tribulations accumulated, she couldn't conquer them and eventually gave up the practice. Later on, her heart disease returned and she was hospitalized again.

After about a year, she visited another practitioner and said she wanted to study again. She had a dream that night. In her dream, many, many people were waiting to get on buses. She ran and ran, and just barely caught a bus. As soon as she found a seat and sat down, the bus drove away. Some time after this, as nearby practitioners were illegally arrested one after another, she became afraid and gave up the practice for the second time.

In 2002, she and her husband visited relatives in Canada for six months. In Canada, wherever they went they encountered practitioners doing the exercises or telling people about the brutal persecution of Falun Dafa in China. She was also very lucky to meet a practitioner who participated in round-the-clock sit-in appeals to end the persecution in front of a Chinese Consulate. So she started to practice Falun Gong again for the third time while in Canada. After six months, her health condition improved considerably. After she returned to China, she told local practitioners that she would never give up the practice of Dafa again.

Seeing his wife's health improve, the bureau chief knew that Falun Dafa was good. After the persecution started, he told a public security division chief not to get involved in the persecution and that Falun Gong was really powerful as it could cure heart disease. After that, the division chief was no longer as active in persecuting Falun Gong. However, the bureau chief didn't decide to practice Falun Gong until he had witnessed the miracles of Dafa himself.

This occurred after they returned from Canada. One night he woke up at midnight and saw two rotating Faluns move from his wife's abdominal area to her neck and then back to her abdomen. He was very surprised. The next night he again woke up at midnight and this time he saw his wife's forehead was shining (in the third eye area). At first he thought it must be a car's head light from outside. But when he opened the curtain he did not see any car outside or any other source of light. Later on he told his wife what he had seen. He also asked her to never stop practicing Falun Dafa again and that he too wanted to learn Dafa.

Thus both the chief and his wife learned Falun Dafa.

By chance I was offered a job in a restaurant. Later, I found out that my boss is a Falun Gong practitioner. As a result of what I'd heard in the [Chinese state-controlled] media, I was frightened to hear about "Falun Gong." The biggest impression I had of Falun Gong was the "Tiananmen Square Self Immolation." When I went home I told my husband that my boss practices Falun Gong, he said, "Don't work there then. We don't want to be murdered for a bit of money." However, my family was tight for money, and I was also curious about Falun Gong, so I went to work the next day to see how it was.

After a few days, I found it weird, but my boss would not even kill a fish or a silkworm. How could it be possible that he would murder someone? On the contrary, he is a very kind man. He told me the benefits gained from practicing Falun Gong and the principles of how to be a good person. He also explained to me that all the reports in the media are lies, just fabricated to discredit Falun Gong and to support the persecution. At the beginning, I could not comprehend it and I even doubted what he said. Later on, because of my boss's behavior, I saw the truth and I came to a totally different understanding of Falun Gong than the one I had gotten from the media.

In fact, anyone who thinks Falun Gong is "no good" has been influenced by the media reports -- the lies on TV and the false propaganda. They have not had any experience with Falun Gong practitioners, so [to coin an old Chinese saying,] if they have never tasted a plum, how would they know whether it is sweet or sour?

Previously I thought that, "if you don't look out for number one, you will be killed by heaven," and that one must work extremely hard in order to change one's life. It was not until I read Teacher Li's Zhuan Falun that I came to obtain true happiness. I used to think that I was a good person. I didn't believe in anything much beyond myself and I only believed in conscience. Now I realize that those are only standards amongst ordinary people, and they are far from the standard of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance." I now know that,

Not long after China's Central Television (CCTV) Station broadcast the staged Tiananmen "self-immolation" incident, it showed footage of another alleged "self-immolation" in Beijing fabricating a story that it was done by a Falun Gong practitioner from Changsha City, Hunan Province.

According to inside sources, the person was from Xiangtan City, Hunan Province. He was a temporary worker at the No. 4 Hongxing Construction Company in Beijing. He died from a serious fall, and the company hoped to avoid the 30,000 to 40,000 Yuan compensation for his death. Leaders of the company conspired with followers of Jiang's regime to have the corpse cremated and frame Falun Gong by falsely claiming it was a self immolation.

Based on partial statistics, nine Falun Dafa practitioners have died from persecution in the Siping area, Jilin Province: Mr. Yu Wenjiang, 56, from Siping City; Ms. Han Cuiyuan from Siping City; Ms. Dai Chunhua, 33, from Lishu County, Siping City; Ms. Li Li, 35, from Lishu County, Siping City; Mr. Sun Youfa, 24, from Shijiapu in Lishu County, Siping City; and Tian Junlong, 45, from Yitong County in Siping City. This is the first Clearwisdom.net report addressing the deaths of the following three practitioners: Mr. Li Xiaodong and Mr. Song Shijie from Siping City, and Mr. Bai Mingsheng from Guojiadian in Siping City.

On March 15, 2002, I was taken to the Nong'an Detention Center in Jilin Province, where several dozen Falun Dafa practitioners were already being unlawfully detained, including practitioners Shi Zhanfeng, Li Shaoshuang, and Liu Lin, who is the elder sister of Mr. Liu Chengjun. Ms. Liu Lin was arrested by the criminal investigation team for a letter she had sent to her father-in-law. Other Falun Dafa practitioners were arrested after the interception of closed-circuit TV programs where Falun Gong documentaries exposing the persecution were broadcast.

When I saw Liu Lin she had been beaten by police. Her face was swollen, she could not bend her knees, and her elbows were bruised a dark purple. She was tortured in attempt to make her reveal the whereabouts of Liu Chengjun, but Ms. Liu Lin never compromised. She was sent to a labor camp at the end of April. Fourteen other practitioners were unlawfully sentenced to prison, including Shi Zhanfeng, Li Shaoshuang, and Li Jinhui.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Jia Qingping, 43, is from Liaocheng, Shandong Province. On the afternoon of January 9, 2004, the police took her to the Liaocheng City Police Department, where she was interrogated and tortured . She was detained at the Liaocheng City Detention Center, while the police conducted an illegal search of her rented home. They confiscated several thousand Yuan, a notebook computer, a CD burner, two cellular phones, and other items, altogether worth over 20,000 yuan. [500 yuan is the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.] Further details are under investigation.

After 9:00 p.m. on February 3, 2002, Feng Bailin, deputy chief of the Jinjia Town Police Station in Changtu County, Liaoning Province, led Hou Wenge and other police officers in a police-car chase of Falun Dafa practitioners who were clarifying the truth. They followed the practitioners all the way to Bajiazi Village in Daxing Township in Changtu County. When Ms. Zhai Shuzhen fell down while running, Feng Bailin, Hou Wenge, and other policemen rushed over and beat her with wooden clubs and iron bars. She quickly passed out, and the corrupt police fled the scene, fearing she might have died from their brutal assault. When Ms. Zhai regained consciousness, she gathered her strength and crawled home. Her family members saw that her life was in imminent danger and borrowed a tricycle to take her to the No. 1 County Hospital. X-ray examination indicated that four ribs were broken. During the surgery, over half a basin of blood was siphoned out of her chest. She stayed in the hospital for eleven days and the medical expenses reached over 6,000 yuan. Ms. Zhai's family eventually ran out of money and she had to check out before she had fully recovered. Serious after-effects from the beating include constant headache, dizziness, and sudden fainting. Her family is very concerned for her condition.

Around 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2004, police and local security officials broke into Mr. Li Guochun's home in Weizi Village and abducted his wife, Falun Dafa practitioner Liu Xiukun, and practitioner Ms. Li Guihong. The police were led by Zhang Zhongren, head of the Changfa Township Police Station in Changtu County, Tieling City, Liaoning Province. Also participating in the abduction were police officers Huang Guangming, Li Wen and the village's security director Liu Yaocheng. The two practitioners are currently being held in the Changtu County Detention Center.

On the morning of January 14, 2004, three Falun Dafa practitioners Ms. Yuan (pseudonym, from out of town), Mr. Yue (pseudonym, from out of town), and Ms. Hu Xinyu were forcibly taken into custody by Miyi County police in Sichuan Province.

Falun Dafa practitioners have been unlawfully detained at the Taihang Prison in Hebei Province since 2000, where prison authorities mentally and physically torture them. Over 70 practitioners are suffering persecution at this facility.

Since the end of 2003, over twenty practitioners went on hunger strike to protest police brutality. In addition, the practitioners all declared that that their "guarantee statements" obtained under the pressure of persecution are unconditionally null and void.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zang Hongyan, 55, is from Changchun City, Jilin Province. In mid-December 2003, officers from the Chaoyang District Branch of Changchun Police Department went to harass her at home. Her husband did not let them in, but she was forced to stay away from home to avoid abduction. On the evening of January 11, 2004, the police from Changchun City Police Department unlawfully arrested her from her brother's home. Ms. Zang's current whereabouts is unknown.

Geng Xiaoyin and Gao Junhua are Falun Dafa practitioners from Weixin Village at Beiling Township in Lijin County, Dongying City, Shandong Province. At 8:00 p.m. on January 13, 2004, their homes were unlawfully searched and the two practitioners were abducted.by officers from the Lijin County Police Department and Beiling Police Station.

The Jinjia Town Police Station illegally confiscated Falun Dafa practitioner Wu Dianshan's car. Mr. Wu is from Bajiazi Village in Daxing Township of Changtu County. Without his consent, the police station sold the car and collected payment. According to state law, private property is protected from being seized by any individual or organization. Rather than enforcing the law, Jinjiazhen Police Station blatantly disregards it.

Falun Dafa practitioners Wu Dianshan and his son Wu Bo are from Bajiazi Village in Daxing Township, Changtu County, Liaoning Province. They have long been driven from their home for adhering to their belief in Falun Dafa. One day in June 2003, Xu Guolin, chief of the Daxing Township Police Station, and Feng Shoujun, the deputy chief, went to Wu's home and told the family that Mr. Wu and his son could return home if they paid a fine of 4,000 yuan. The Wu family failed to come up with the payment. Late one night, Xu Guolin and Feng Shoujun broke into their relative's home. They did not find Mr. Wu or his son, but stole a Changhong-100 motorcycle. Officer Tong Guojun and driver Sun Baijun also participated in the robbery.

Yi Sixiu is a Falun Dafa practitioner from Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province. In January 2001, she went to Beijing to validate Falun Dafa. She was sent back and brutally beaten by corrupt officers in the Longfeng Town Government. She was then unlawfully sent to the Pengzhou Prison, where she was held for over month on four different occasions. She has also been imprisoned in the town's government building and tortured for seventeen days straight. Despite relentless suppression, Ms. Yi has not stopped going out to clarify the truth. For this she was abducted and beaten at the Guihua Police before being transferred to the Pengzhou City Brainwashing Center, where she was beaten by Chengdong (under the pseudonym of Wang Dong) and Luo Ke, from the "610 Office." Ms. Yi suffered severe physical and mental pain, and money has been extorted from her family.

All other Falun Dafa practitioners who have been abducted to the brainwashing center have also suffered from torture, extortion, fines and other abuse.

In November 2003, Falun Dafa practitioner Fu Jian from Xinyu, Jiangxi Province was unlawfully sentenced to ten years in prison. Yang Shiqian and Fu Jianfeng were each sentenced to eight years. Three other practitioners received prison terms ranging from one year to four years. It has been reported that more Falun Dafa practitioners were arrested at the beginning of December.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Shen Chunfang is from Yueyang, Hunan Province. On the morning of November 26, 2003, she went to the Beigang Township Government to request receipts from Li Heping who, in 2001, extorted 3,000 Yuan and a television set from her. He refused to provide the receipt, and passed the responsibility to the Beigang Township Police Station and Wu Can in the "610 Office", denying any acts of extortion.

On her way home, Ms. Shen passed by the Beigang Township Police Station. She went in to look for Peng Bo, head of the police station but didn't find him. At 7:00 p.m. that evening, over a dozen corrupt officers from the Xiangyin Police Station and "610 Office" in Yueyang broke into her home. They threatened her husband and abducted her to the police station. She was transferred to the Xiangyin Detention Center, where she resisted the persecution by shouting praises of Falun Dafa everyday. The head of the detention center encouraged criminal inmates to curse Ms. Shen and pour icy water over her head. 5,000 Yuan was extorted from her family before she was finally released.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Wei Minghua is a senior-ranked teacher at the Qingyuan County No. 1 High School. She is a decent, honest person, and always showed compassion toward students. She used to volunteer weekends and holidays to help students with poor scores to catch up. She also taught students to place study as the top priority. Both her students and their parents all commended her. With Ms. Wei teaching their children, parents felt they had nothing to worry about.

In the afternoon of May 19, 2003, police officers from the Fushun City Police Department, and the Qingyuan County Police Department and Qingyuan County Political and Judiciary Committee, publicly arrested Ms. Wei at the No. 1 High School. With students and teachers watching, the officers dragged her by the feet and threw her into the police vehicle.

Six months later, Ms. Wei was dismissed from her teaching position for adhering to her belief in Falun Dafa.

Zhang Shujun, male, head of the Qinglong County State Security Brigade, is primarily responsible for the arrest of Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Song Youchun, who later died from persecution. Zhang is extremely vicious in the suppression of Falun Dafa practitioners. In December, a woman practitioner was arrested for distributing truth-clarifying materials. Zhang spent the whole night interrogating her, but she refused to reveal the source of the materials. Zhang and the woman practitioner were former classmates. She was finally released after eleven days of refusing both food and water.

In the morning of January 14, 2004, officials from the Guangyang Town in Nan'an District, Chongqing posted banners in the street defaming Falun Dafa. Falun Dafa practitioners Jiang Zhifen and her daughter Zhang Lisha stepped forward and told the public the truth about the persecution against Falun Gong. The police took them to the Guangyang Town Police Station, where they were still in custody at 8:00 p.m. Ms. Jiang's husband Zhang Yuanhua, and her son-in-law are also Falun Dafa practitioners.

Falun Dafa practitioners Yan Changjun and Kan Guihong are from Huanxiling at Dongguo Weichang in Panshan County, Liaoning Province. On the evening of January 9, 2004, they were posting Falun Gong truth-clarifying leaflets in the local Huanxiling area and were arrested by officers from the Nanjingzi Border Patrol Police Station affiliated with the Panshan County Police Department. The two practitioners are currently being held in the Panshan County Detention Center. Kan Guihong has been on a hunger strike for five days, protesting the illegal detention.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Wu Yuyun is a retired teacher from the Jiangmen City No. 1 High School in Guangdong Province. She was among the first group of practitioners who were kidnapped to a brainwashing class on April 29, 2001. That brainwashing session ran for three months and was held in three institutes, (Drug Rehabilitation Center, Detention Center, and Detention and Intensive Labor Center). Ms. Wu refused to be brainwashed and was held for three extra months. In the end she was released with dignity. On June 1, 2002, she was abducted to another brainwashing session held in the Party School for a month. Again, she walked out upon completion of the session without compromising her belief. On August 14, 2003, she was taken away by the police. All information about her situation has been blocked and her family members have been denied any visits. It has been reported that this round of brainwashing was sponsored by the provincial authorities and is being held in a hotel in Sanshui area. Details are not available but there is cause for concern regarding the situations of abducted practitioners. Ms. Wu has been held in the brainwashing center since her abduction in August. It is believed that a second round of brainwashing has begun.

One December morning, around 7:30 a.m. Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhang Yanjuan was dragged into a police vehicle near a gas station in Liyue, Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province. She was taken to the Litang Police Station in Liyue Town. The police demanded that she write the "three statements" [renouncing Falun Gong] and threatened to otherwise send her to the brainwashing center. She was held till 9:50 a.m. before being released because police learned that she was pregnant.

Around 8:40 the same morning, when Zhang's husband Liang Ruiqiang was just getting home after working a night shift, four village security officials led by Wu Ziming abducted him, without notifying or giving any reason to his family. It was not until evening that they received word that Liang had been transferred to the brainwashing facility in Sanshui, Guangdong Province.

Li Weisheng is a Falun Dafa practitioner from Xuanhua, Hebei Province. When Falun Dafa practitioners were illegally tried at the Qiaodong District Court in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, Li shouted "Falun Dafa Is Good" in the courtroom. She was taken away by the police and held in the Xuanhua Detention Center, where she has been on a hunger strike for many days.

Falun Dafa practitioner Li Guirong is from Xuanhua, Hebei Province. In June 2002, Li was taken by the police to the Xuanhua Detention Center from home and later transferred to the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp, where, under severe pressure, he signed the "four statements" [renouncing Falun Gong]. Li later solemnly declared that these statements were nullified and suffered police retaliation for refusing to renounce his belief. The full details are unknown, but Li is in critical condition, and still denied release.

Qi Long is a police officer at the Forestry Police Station affiliated with the Lingyuan City Police Department in Liaoning Province. In 2002, he received a cash reward of 3,000 Yuan for turning in Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Wang Jian. Mr. Wang has been illegally sentenced to three years of forced labor, and suffered from brutal torture both in the detention center and in the forced labor camp, causing him to lose consciousness several times. His mother is over 60 and in poor health. She has been left at home alone, tormented by the separation from her son.
